I will be among the one hundred authors who will be giving away a free copy of one of their books in the Blind Date With A Book Valentine’s Giveaway. How does it work? First join the MM and MMM+ Romance Reviewed Facebook Group. Watch for the posts connected to the giveaways. Clues will be given to various books including the romantic pairing, the themes or tropes of the book, and a quote. What you won’t get is the name of the author or the name of the book. For each post, express your interest. Authors will randomly select from the comments, and one lucky person will win a copy of the book that matches the mystery quote. If you win, you don’t know what you’ll be getting, but you might discover a new author to love. To join the group click here.

The recent addition of the audio book of Mann Hunt has increased the numbers of people reading and listening to the adventures of Declan Hunt and Charlie Watts. Narrator Sam Rosenthal did a fantastic job of capturing the huge cast of characters. The first book in the series now has over 600 reviews on Amazon. People seem to be loving the world of these Calgary detectives.

And speaking of the world, the books have been seeing greater readership around the globe thanks to their translations into other languages. Since the Olympics are on in Italy right now, I figured I would see what people in Italy are saying about the Italian translation of the latest novel The Burnt.

Here is a FIVE STAR REVIEW! It’s in Italian, but if you don’t speak the language, the translation is provided below.

With Burnt Lives: The Burnt, Peter E. Fenton signs the third chapter of the series The Mysteries of Declan Hunt, and he does so with a narrative maturity that conquers from the first pages. The investigative tension is intertwined with a profound emotional exploration: Charlie Watts, struggling with his exam as a private investigator, finds himself managing not only new cases but also a complex relationship with Declan Hunt, his boss and partner. Their balance is tested by a mystery rooted in the past: a threatening note and the disappearance of a boy ten years earlier.

Fenton manages to balance suspense and romance with great elegance. The dialogues are believable, the pace is fast but never hasty, and the dynamic between Charlie and Declan is treated with sensitivity and authenticity. The novel is not limited to solving a case: it invites us to reflect on how much we are willing to risk to discover the truth.

Recommended for those who love thrillers with a strong emotional component and characters that remain impressed. A worthy sequel to the series, which leaves you with the desire to read the next chapter.

While I haven’t had a lot of reading time, I did manage to fit in Christian Baines’ latest book Andalusia Dogs. Christian writes literary fiction with an edge, and this book is sexy and beautifully written. The description is below.

As Spain’s fledgling democracy enters the 80s, young artists have transformed Madrid into a city where anything is possible, where outcasts, freaks and creative weirdos of every type let their imaginations run free amid beautiful, hedonistic chaos.

All Alex wants is to create one unforgettable show that earns the respect and admiration of his fellow outcasts. When Jago, a handsome and kind, yet secretive young man pulls him from harm’s way during a protest, a night of tenderness opens the door to new and thrilling talents. His new friend is also determined to see him succeed… at any price.

Caught between suspicion, enthrallment and desire, Alex and his friends dance to the tune of poets and devils. Will it lead them to an opening night triumph? Or is Alex writing the script for a tragedy in the pursuit of fame and love?

At the present, there is very little I can say about my latest novel as the publisher likes to keep the details under lock and key until a little closer to the launch. Much of this is due to the fact that after the manuscript goes to the editor, some things may be altered. But they did say that I could share the first few sentences of the first chapter. This novel starts with a slightly darker edge.

The late-July sunset painted the Calgary horizon with radiating bands of yellow, orange, amber and purple. As he watched, the colours began to shift, and the darkness devoured the light. He found momentary inner-peace as he watched the death of the day from his home in the sky.

In March, I am hoping to be able to share the title of the new book, as well as perhaps a few more details about the book. I will also have updates on upcoming events as I move toward the release of the novel at the end of the summer. Until then, here’s a wish that during these chilly winter months, that you find love in life, or on the pages of your favourite authors. As always, thanks for reading.

Warmest Regards,

Peter E. Fenton
